4/30/06 GS Grudge Match Trials: Seaside Park                     photos: Tom Spader

The Garden State Grudge Match Trials were held at Meters in Seaside Park in Heavy NE conditions.  SNJ's Scott Onthrup took the win followed by Pat Emery and Rob Kelly and all three qualified for the GSGM in October.  Dave Werner took fourth and earned an alternate spot with a very good chance to surf in the fall.  Pat "Surfcat" Emery, grinning ear-to-ear after winning his semi-final heat with only seconds left said "the waves felt like a post hurricane swell, lots of power."  The size was there with overhead sets rolling in from far outside as the contest's sweet spot moved two hundred yards north with the changing tides.  Good stuff and once again, organizer Rob Cloupe scored another Grudge swell.
